'Google Suggest Tool' helps you with keywords or key phrases that people USE to find information!

Here is an item in my store: Spring/Fall Zero Posur girls Jacket with 4 Velcro Pockets 6X

Google Analytics: How the heck to you use it?

I have Google analytics on this site, but it took some doing to understand some of the reports. I'm sure I still have something to learn. I just wanted to start with the basics here today.

Lets look at a couple of sections today.

Search Engine Keywords - are the words that drew them to your site. They are clicking on those to read you content.

Referring Sites - those are other sites that have links to your site, and content within your site.

Visitor type - What number of your visitors are NEW, and what number are returning to read your content!

These are important starting points to understanding analytics. One thing that is nice is you don't have to have that counter on the bottom of your page any longer! There is not need for it anymore.

Visits: Number of times somebody came to your site in the week.

Pages/Visit: Measures number of pages read on average to show you how "engaged" your readers are with your content.

Avg. Time on Site: Measures the length of the typical visit to your site. In general, the higher quality your content is, the longer the average visit.

% New Visits: This one is a little confusing. Basically, measures what percent of visits are made by visitors who have never been to your site before. In general, you want to see this number drop as more and more visitors return to your site because they are enjoying your thoughts, concepts and information you provide.

Bounce Rate: NOT what I thought it was! Bounce Rate is the percentage of visits to your site that result in only one page being visited. For most types of sites the lower bounce rates are better.

Here are some basics for you for Google Analytics! Use those reports to realize what content is getting you traffic, what keywords are important for one! Then continue to find ways of writing content that people will enjoy reading, and content that sells YOU and your product!

What has anyone else learned about this program that you use for your site?

Find your NICHE on the internet!

I read a lesson today on NICHE marketing basically on the internet! Lets take my industry - Engraving. Lets just say the chance of me getting to the top 10 on the internet JUST because of Trophies isn't very likely! I mean engravers or trophy house are plentiful aren't they? I can't say that I'm someone in the middle of quality, because I don't think I am! We do a good job, but how many times are people willing to go do page 30 of the internet to find me? People on the internet AREN'T very patience! I know I'm not either at times! LOL! Its the same thing when you hear about people that sell baskets, children's clothing, jewelry for example!

I decided I was going to take this free SEO course that I found online. SEO Training by GNC Web Creations is the name of it, and its all yahoo group based. It has lessons that you do to learn. I may not be able to apply EVERYTHING to my free website, but it will give me a good idea of what I need when purchase of webspace comes into the picture!

As you can guess the lesson today was about finding your NICHE! One of the teacher's examples was she does web design, and made a point of letting every one know just HOW MANY web designers there are! She targets (for one thing) motorcyles websites!

She mentions that every page within your website is a door to people. My example may not be as DYNAMIC, but I will give a try! One page on my site may be dedicated to SOCCER TROPHIES, and another page BASEBALL TROPHIES. If I have one page with all themes one page chances are good no one is going to stick around searching pass the cheerleader trophy, science club trophy, football trophy to get their SOCCER trophy! She hasn't said it yet, but I would assume you are to optimatize each page per theme! It doesn't matter if your customer comes to your site on page 2000 if that is where their product is!

Does this mean you leave out all those OTHER products that you sell? Nope! Just focus on the 'special' or 'niche' trophy in my case! It may not even be TROPHIES for me. I will have to see!

She had a good article on her site!

GooglePages are FUN! You have one yet?

Here is the "about" page for Google Pages

Google page basically allows you to make a couple of webpages for yourself. You do have some access to the html, so you can dress them up a bit! One requirement is to get the gmail (basically google's email program) in order to do this. I personally didn't think it was all that big of deal! You can still use your own email and passcode to sign into your google account. My sign in name is the one I choose for gmail so don't let it take you back when you see it after you sign in! It wont' show your email name that you opened your google account with anymore.

The more items you use OFF this program the more webspace you can use! For example, I still use photobucket for my images. My account as of now still has tons of space left! The help section seems to be pretty active, and if you do a search for what you are looking for chances are you will find it!

I was reading the help section, and I came upon a poster that had his own googlepage with tips! I went there and did some fast reading. I learned that you can use templates from other places, and NOT use the ones avaiable! That is all fine and great except you have to break the template UP and place in the separate sections of their TEMPLATE! I found that out the hard way! When you start playing around with it you see the button to edit the html, and so of course I did! I erased all the html that was there, and then copied my template html that I worked on instead. What I didn't realize is that I placed my entire template within the header portion of the page, and it looked AWFUL! You have to break up your template into the separate sections.

The preview section isn't all that helpful! I found you must view it live in order to get a good feel for what it will look like live! YES you can play around with it without it being LIVE on the internet, and if you decide to take it down off the internet it gives you that option also!

My page is still a work in progress! Here is is!

Engraver For You

Now you can't add meta tags or keywords into your html from what I have read. You must make sure your page is keyword rich, and do this naturally! Then make sure you get some of those one way links to drive up the page rank of your site!

Helpful tip page from another google page member

What I would LIKE to do is use this page for an entrance into my ecrater store! I placed a note on my google page noting that if they click the 'baseball' button for example it will take them to the baseball trophy section of my store! I will be adding additional sports trophies, and pages with time. Remember to use your anchor text along with other items!

7. Sign up for a "My Yahoo" at http://my.yahoo.com/ and attach your blog to your own "My Yahoo" account. This will get your blog included in Yahoo very quickly. This is worth the effort to stop what you're doing right and do it, since Yahoo has a PR 9.

8. Use this code: "http://add.my.yahoo.com/content?url= http://www.yourblog.com/urblog.xml" in your blog to allow others to put your feed on their own "My Yahoo" account.

9. Sign up for a "My MSN" at http://www.my.msn.com/, and attach your blog to your own "My MSN" account. This will get your blog included in MSN very quickly. This is also invaluable because MSN has a PR 8.

http://ezinearticles.com/
http://goarticles.com/
http://www.knowledge-finder.com/
http://www.informit.com/articles/

15. Locate blogs with a lot of traffic and place useful comments in their comment box. Be sure the blog and your comments are relavent to both your blog and theirs. Senseless posts won't help you, they'll hurt you.

16. Once you get around 5 to 10 posts on your blog, start a PR campaign and announce it to all relevant channels.

17. Make a blog post as often as possible. More than once a day is not really necessary. Remember, if you can't write that much, go to step # 14.

Logo's and their importance!

Seth's blog has an article about Logo's that I felt was very worth the read!

People get so caught up in the logo process at times, and they forget at first that logo isn't going to do much for them! I'm not saying you shouldn't do a good job in making one! Of course that is important, but don't waste a lot of money and NOT follow up with your customer service etc to make it WORTH something!

The logo will be worth something once you branded the company well enough! They used the example of a well-known company that has a picture of an apple with a bite taken out of it! You can imagine how well that logo would be recognized (and worth the price they paid for it) if their computers were not worth turning ON in the first place!

We had a local chamber here that was rather large! They made the decision one year to change their image around, and go for a new look. NOW that isn't a bad idea all the time! The problem with the organization was it didn't need a new LOOK it needed to restructure certain areas of their organization to attract some untapped markets! They were more geared towards BIG BUSINESS, and they were missing the boat on the small businesses in the area. Their goal was to attract them with their new look. They paid $6000 I think it was for this NEW look, but it didn't attract what they were aiming for! Why? Their logo had nothing to do with WHAT they could do for the small businesses in that area! Their attitude and services that they could provide for those small businesses just wasn't there! I'm sure at first they got their memberships, but the true test is renewal which they failed at. Each year they are constantly on the run to make the up difference, and couldn’t figure out WHY retention is so hard! Was their $6000 investment worth it? The logo may have been if they took the time to work on things.

Logo’s don’t bring in loyal customers – service and good product does!

Placing your own images on Squidoo

There is an option to upload on squidoo, but you have more control over your images when you use a little html.

Above the code for today!

Anyway, the first thing you need is a place to host your pictures for you to use on squidoo! I personally have been using www.photobucket.com for years! Once you place your images on your photobucket account (or whom every you use to host your images) we can go on to the next step!

these are your options with photobucket, and for this example we are going to use the top choice or URL link! Replace the website information that is given in the code I showed on top with this code that you grabbed from your photobucket account. Right now you are READY! You have now written for your html coded picture ready to use on squidoo!

The code above allows you to hyperlink your picture directly to the site it refers to!

If you click on the above picture it will take you directly to my squidoo page for the hat shaped name badges! The above code will allow you to do the same things with your items! As you may have figured out already, the top set of quotes is for the website you want them to go to, and the second set of quotes is the photobucket URL link for your picture! Pretty cool huh?

I'm going to show another picture with directions this time. Just I just grabbed a screen shot with directions! This is how you wrap text around your picture in squidoo!

Squidoo and the email link!

If you wish to include a link so your vistors in squidoo can email you that is very simple! YES we are talking basic HTML again! The last example was pretty simple, and this one will be also!

Again try to use some anchor text instead of EMAIL ME!
Take out your notepad program again, and don't use the word processor! In the first section between the quotes ("") you have some text that states mailto: leave that part alone, and delete the rest of it! Place your own email address in that blank!

Again between the >< place the text you wish to see highlighted in your module over at squidoo!

My Email Contact is what it will look like! AND YOUR DONE!

Basic html on squidoo is a really neat idea to personalize your modules, and make them something people will want to return to!

Squidoo and the hyperlink!

I have been extremely busy lately, but I finally had the time to do two Squidoo lens for the store online! Within 5 minutes of posting the first one I had 7 visits and a rating of 5.

Now it would seem to me that the more relevant tags you use (and if you think about its really KEYWORDS) the more success you might have for traffic! Its really strange to start so low, and watch the numbers grow day by day! Don't forget to use the keyword tools I placed on the sidebar to make sure you use something that the search engines like!
What is NICE about squidoo is that you are able to use html. Now don't get excited because basic html really isn't all that hard to learn! When you find little pieces of code save them in the notepad program and not your word processor.

You can use HTML in the modules that they supply. From what I have figured out - all of them! The first module has the html editor in there, and that did confused me because the rest of them didn't! For visual purposes make sure you click 'wrap text' for that module that offers the html editor. I added the code directly into the other modules. Here are some basic html codes for you.

We are going to start by making a hyperlink. That means you click on some words and it ZOOMS you to that website! Below is the code:

When making a hyperlink to a website don't forget to use that ANCHOR text! Don't use 'click here' for my site! Remember your tagline for your website, blog, store etc and use that! For this example I will use the title of my lens. Above is a snippet of code to paste into your note pad program! Then I will explain it!

Now you see the website in the first part between the quotes (“ “)? That is your first section! The easiest way at first is to actually GO to the website you want to hyperlink, and look to the address bar! Highlight that address (the whole thing) with your mouse and copy it. You can do that a couple of ways.

1. Right click and hit copy
2. Look to the very TOP of the screen and click Edit and click the copy command
3. Click your control button or CTRL button and then hit the C button.

Next go into that code above and delete the domain dot com part (the whole thing), and just leave the quotes. With then paste your website address in there!

1. Right click and hit paste
2. Edit again and then click paste
3. Control (CTRL) and V

Now wasn’t that easy? YEP and you are halfway there!
The second part isn’t that hard either! In between the >< where is says my website – delete that and USE your anchor text! Below is a hyperlink right to the page I mentioned before! I will get you another basic lesson tomorrow!

Below is an example that I used with the squidoo link to my page that I am talking about the badge in the description below!

Name Tag or Name Badge Full Color and Tooth Shaped Dentist

Do you Squidoo? Could help your Traffic!

For the last couple of days I have been helping a partner from another site Emotional Abuse and Your Faith put up some Squidoo pages. It seems to be fairly simple, and easy to do! Its nice because they do have a blog going into more detail, and also a forum you can go to and ask questions! Use your keywords, and you also need (at times) some basic HTML.

When you read the squidoo site they speak about 'lens', and basically all that means is a web page! We took a couple of her pages, and a couple of new articles that she wrote and placed them on squidoo. As we searched around a bit we found new ways of doing this to gain some income. YES squidoo will pay you for being there! They have adsense articles on your page, and you also can choose some advertisers as well. You have a choice of either pocketing the cash, donating it to a charity, and part of it to a charity.

You can use up to 40 keywords, and like most other places you use visit some other pages to get an idea of HOW they format, and what keywords they use. We used her articles to promote BOTH her blog (Emotional Abuse and Your Faith), this blog (Nice Used Clothes For Charity), and the store (Ecrater - Nice Used Clothes For Charity) we write about here. I haven't checked with her, but I have noticed that I got some hits from it already here! Our ranking when we placed the articles on there at the beginning was +100,000, and it has risen to +20,000 in a couple of days.

We both figured out HOW to do the pages, and this morning I submitted them to search engines and blog engines as well! I sent out a couple of emails to friends about it, and she is going to place her pages on her blog. This week I plan on placing some advertising for the store on there.

Here are a couple of her pages:

Emotional Abuse and Your Faith - Introduction Page

When Everything I do is not right!

Is this the Proper Form of Communication?

The Abusive Person

Jesus Heals Abuse Board - Domestic, Verbal and Emotional Abuse

Head over to Squidoo, and gets your ranking to grow and traffic to your site! We will write about this more later! Let us know what you can learned!

Guaranteed Linkbacks - Here is HOW!

As we have spoken about before linkbacks can help you in your quest for search engine rankings, technorati, and also traffic to your site!

Courtneytuttle.com has a neat list on his site called, "D-list". This list is some blogs that have added some special HTML that states their blog will follow you automatically when you leave a comment on their blog - or linkback to you. If you use this service - or actually major favor - they don't want some crazy comments, spam, etc. I would assume just like any other blog they will delete the comment! They are truly looking for GOOD comments to keep the dialog going! Just like you would wish for your own site!

Right now the site has a list of over 170 blogs to choosee from. If you read a couple that seriously don't do anything for you don't worry about it! The list has quite a selection to choose from! Not only do you get a cool linkback, but you might learn something. You might even find a site that keeps your interest so you keep coming back, and find new friends!

Pretty cool huh?

Get Better Traffic with Anchor Text!

I guess some people would ask first, "What the heck is anchor text?" GOOD question, and in a short answer is linked text is usually relevant to the landing page. The objective of search engines is to provide highly relevant search results; this is where anchor text helps, as the tendency is, more often than not, to hyperlink words relevant to the landing page.

For example John Chow likes to use "Make Money Online". Do you see how I linked his tag-line to his site? Make Money On-line is the ANCHOR text, and the landing page? HIS website in this example! John Chow speaks a lot about making money on-line so it is relevant to the anchor text, and it also helps his ranking when others use this to link to his site! Matter of fact he ASKS you to do it that way!

I read a while back CLICK HERE is used a lot in sites that offer their readers the link to Adobe for their program to read their articles in .pdf. In the search engines if you check to see WHO has the highest ranking for the words "CLICK HERE" it would be THEM! Click here has nothing to DO with their software at all, but something tells me they don't mind the ranking they get for using it! On the funny side its a good example of something NOT relevant if you think about it!

Use your keyword tools to come with up a tagline that would be revelant, and something people actually SEARCH for! I was thinking about "build a store online", but it doesn't seem to popular! I will have to brainstorm, and come up with something SOON!

Remember if your sites name is jackflash.com it may not be all that relevant to what your SITE is about! Remember that search engines also don't like those anchor text being to long. Keep it short and simple! "jackflash.com home of the really fast photo developing" is WAY to long for a search engine to even bother with you! SHORT and SWEET!

Keep something else in mind as well! If you are signing up with a directories, webring, etc and they give you the opportunity to give that tag line instead of your website USE IT! That is also Anchor text!

Blog about money online has an excellent article to continue your reading on the subject now that you have the basics!

Now get that anchor text, and drive that TRAFFIC home!

MSN Product Upload Issues that I see - What about you?

I got an email from MSN recently reminding me that there had not no activity on my account that I had signed up for. To be perfectly honest I was a bit overwhelmed, and had MORE questions than answers when it came to their help section. I also found that Ecrater stores are automatically being taken care of by the admins of that site! PRETTY AWESOME HUH? The problem I ran into was the images! If you do any reading at all it seems to be a pretty good bottleneck for them. Here is a quote I found on their site:

Why aren’t there 100% images in the top results? The reason is largely because many sites, including very reputable merchants like Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and AceHardwareSuperStore.com, block image crawling bots or seriously throttle them. We will have to work with these sites to address these issues, but the latest improvements in the number of Product Search top results with images are already quite significant.

So according to them everyone's images are NOT capable with their system. You don't have issues other places, but with them you do. I would think MSN would fix things on their end instead of asking others to change their system that seems to work other places.

Anyway, they also mentioned in the email that they are now taking googlebase uploads. I figured I would give them a shot, because of the images being missing on the products that ecrater sent over to them. I have different categories like men, ladies, children, books, trophy, etc so I couldn't place a category in there for them. Category is in the data feed itself, so i wondered WHY they asked for it! Maybe they want us to break it up - I'm not sure. I did submit the googlebase file to them on Friday. Today is Sunday and they are STILL processing it! The screen says 36 hours, but my file is rather small compared to some. I really wonder WHY it would take that long as well.

If they want new files to come to them, and it is going to take 36 hours for them to process it I plan on breaking my list up and giving it to them in sections. Everyday or so I will supply them with a new list. THAT IS if the picture issue is taken care of!

If you have been reading for a while I sent googlebase a question about their google checkout. According to the last email I receive from them if you set up a datafeed (bulk upload), and your items when clicked automatically send people to your store you can't be counted as a company that offers google checkout. Only the items you place on googlebase manually would be allowed that. I know for a fact that isn't TRUE! I questioned them with links to examples, and of course no response. I'm going to send it again!

Back to subject - will MSN take care of the image issue? I sure hope so! I will see if my image issue is taken care of once they are done 'processing' my feed. Bleck! 36 hours is way to long! Another major bottleneck in my eyes!

I found a rather humorous thread last night, and wanted to share! How little rednecks become big rednecks! I still was giggling this morning after reading it again!

You are writing great articles, but is your topic over this head?

Have you ever been to a website trying to understand a concept, and the writer is writing about it and you are left MORE confused than when you started? I don't mind a word here or there that I can easily look up, but if the article is about a concept......don't go over my head okay? LOL!
At times its hard to realize that maybe POSSIBLY alot of your readers aren't as advantaged on a topic as you are! Could be why they are there! They want to learn! If you are going to chat about some concept - stop to think about the newbies at times!

It just happened again.
I’m reading, but I’m not getting it. Maybe if I continue to read, all will become clear.
Nope.
I feel dumb.
Obviously, there is something I’m missing. It’s my fault. I’ll read it again.
Nope, still not getting it.
The pictures look great, nice web design. Looks like a trustworthy company.
Keep your money, Chris. Maybe somebody can explain it to me later (if I remember).
Sorry friend, you’ve just lost the sale.

Don't let that happen to you!!
Writing copy even Grandma would love! is a good article from Copy Blogger.

Courtney Tuttle has a very user friendly, and VERY entertaining website! Have you checked it out yet? I mentioned earlier online about his article: Making Money Online is this business for you?

He started this blog fairly recently, and mentioned the amount of money he brought in last month in a post. He is now running a contest! Make Money Online $350 is a link to the rules of the contest! Need Some Keyword Tools? WE GOT THEM!

Keyword tools are very helpful, and at times comparing the difference between a couple of them can really open your eyes!

Keep in mind you don't just have to use these tools for the programing of your meta tags, but you can also use them to find good words to use for articles, advertising, etc. There are a number of ways you can use them! Technorati is another good way one if you are going to their site, and using words to drag traffic to your site!

There are pay versions of these tools of course, but I found some that are free. I'm sure in time I will be upgrading to the paid versions, but for right now these are excellent items to add to your tool section for online!

Make sure you use them for ANYTHING you would wish to use keywords with!

Ways to gain some exposure! Just what your website needs...

Networking is what it is called on the offline world, but socializing (is one word for it) I guess is what is it called ONLINE! When you write content for your ads or for your store, etc you have to be business like. You have to make sure this attracts those unknown people that are surfing along, and plugging in those phrases in the search engines. ATTRACT that website attention with all your might!

Forums are a good place to start, learn and contribute! Its also a place you get let your hair down a bit!! Myself, personally I like to have a mix of people when I go to a board to learn and to add my own comments from expereince. Grab some forums and get involved! I know from my chamber experience there are those that join, and then do NOTHING! They expect the business to start just rolling in because they paid their dues. Its funny how you hear how people just don't have time to get involved! Chambers hands you plenty of fun things to help out with, and during that time you again NETWORK! I'm not sure what these people think will be asked of them, but it sure isn't blood for goodness sakes! I have children, home and a business offline and I still find time to make sure things that are important are accomplished! At times YES I'm burning the candle at both ends, but you have to look at what the reward is at the end! I just love those that think if they place an ad, or join a club, and they just sit back and WAIT for the dollars to roll in! Let me tell you something......for the most part it AIN'T going to happen! That is just part of the mix! There is WORK involved, but you can still have FUN! Find some forums, and have FUN with it......and NETWORK!

Make sure you have business cards for your online business! Make you you promote it offline as well as ONLINE! If it is just a blog - NO PROBLEM! You can't tell me others aren't interested in your subject matter right? Business cards are harder to lose than just, "Here let me write down the blog address for you!" Besides that you want a presense right? A small investment in business cards, or business card magnets can really help you out! Alot of my clients love PENS, and yes they do have their place! As a primary promotional tool? I guess that would depend on the type of pen! The cheap ones? They get thrown in drawer with the rest of the pens....GREAT for you advertising dollars huh? Postem notes are good as well! Think about it! Not only is your name in front of people, but when they use those notes - your name travels! If you make your money off the ads, or whatever you still want to get people to the site right? Promoting it can be inexpensive as far as business cards, etc but let me tell you - they do pay OFF!

You ever go to a store and they have those bulletin boards where the local painters, contractors, babysitters post there stuff? With you with your PROMOTIONAL mind you CAN come up with something to build more traffic to your site! How about all those ads "Make Money Online" if that is your gift to show to people! Awesome gift baskets for any occasion! Even mention your expertise about adsense! The traffic isn't JUST on the internet! Let your creative juices FLOW! Pings, submit to search engines, forums, commenting on others sites, etc - those are ALL awesome ideas! Don't forget about your offline world! That is ALL I'm saying!

Here is another article about getting involved, and how it helped!

Can you develop your blog with MyBlogLog? Don't forget you may not fit in all places, but the internet is endless! Find places you do, and get to the networking! It will do you good!

DIGITAL ART
The highest quality art is VECTOR ART. It is resolution independent . This means that it can be enlarged without affecting the quality of your imprint.

RASTER ART (Placed/continuous tone images)
Raster Art is resolution dependent. When you change the size of an imprint, you change the quality. This means that the resolution (dpi or ppi) of your file is critical. Files must be at least 600dpi. Grayscale and Bitmaps must be 1200 dpi at 100% of final size. Do not submit files w/linked images. Please mebed all graphics.

FONTS
Convert your text into "curves" or "outlines" before e-mailing your art.

TYPESETTING
We can add text to your imprint at no additional charge. We have a variety of popular fonts, just pick your favorite from the list on above. Then send a typewritten version of the text, and specify typeface, point sizes and case.

Artwork Standards
In order to give you the highest quality imprint, we have developed some artwork guidelines, which include minimum line weights. All copy should be 6 points or larger. Lines should be no thinner than .5 pt. We will redraw halftones and screens, filling them in or outlining them, and reset copy when necessary. BIC reserves the right to modify your art if it does not meet these quality standards.

We do have templates, and details instructions also…..just ask!
